Rave Culture Takes On The Call For Urgent Climate Action With Music Declares Emergency

Our connection to music began in the 80s, with Smiley becoming a symbol of emerging music subcultures, closely associated with the electronic music movement.

We have partnered with Music Declares Emergency to launch an official NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET t-shirt in two designs, created by UK-based visual artist Raissa Pardini.

The NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET campaign harnesses the power of music to inspire climate action needed for a better future.  The campaign has been supported by artists from across the musical spectrum, including Billie Eilish, The LSO, Napalm Death, Brian Eno, Arlo Parks, and Radiohead.

Future Positive is our sustainability initiative here at Smiley with the mission and mantra to make a difference and make things better with our partners and licensees. For us at Smiley, it’s about striking a balance between responsibility and making more sustainable products for our customers and the planet. These T-shirts bring climate messaging into new spaces to encourage conversation, debate, and, ultimately, action. 100% of profits from each tee sold go towards Music Declares Emergency's campaigns.

Despite 64% of the global population defining climate change as an emergency (with high-income countries such as the UK and USA coming in at 74% - see the UN Study here), we are still not seeing a unified response from those in power to a situation that threatens everyone’s health and livelihoods.

The whole reason we wear logos and slogans on our clothes is to tell the world something about ourselves. We make our NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET T-shirts so that music fans have a way of expressing their concerns around climate, to find allies and spark debate in places that it may not otherwise occur. Having sold 40k+ tees in 40+ counties, in the last 3 years, we continue to make an inclusive and cultural way for people to share their values. We need this to express the consensus for urgent climate action so that those with the keys to power can start to take notice” - Fay Milton, Creative Director, Music Declares Emergency
